The fall of 2015 began our new adventure of becoming a full fledged small business. We registered as a small business with the state of West Virginia, obtained our business license, received a list (actually a booklet) of product requirements from the WV Dept. of Agriculture, created a couple of marketing campaigns, developed relationships with new suppliers, took our first product order following the opening of our business and even attended our first event. Whew! What a year! As inspiring as our growth has become, we also became aware of another pressing issue... The USPS was set to raise their shipping rates Jan 17th by 14%! This would mean that just one of our 20 ct products would increase from a shipping rate of $3.99 to $4.55. An order with two items would find a shipping rate increase from $5.95-$6.78. This is bad news for many small businesses like ours.
There has to be a better way to get the products our customers love into their hands at a better price. This in mind, we immediately got to work at the start of 2016 to find retail locations to carry our items. We also started to hunt down the perfect retail location. We even went to look at a much larger space right here in Jane Lew! However, we know that a new location would have to be just right for our customers (both human and canine) as it would be for us. Our goal is to create an inviting family space where we can also provide an exquisite level of service. As for right now, we will continue to search for that perfect retail location and also work to create new business relationships to get our products out without being solely bound by rising shipping rates.
